Bilge
I wouldn't say the Hillsobrough Hotel is "cliquey" - me and partner go in (not on a regular basis - say once a month) and its a always a friendly welcome. Good beer, and wine is fine too - great place to have a catch up with firends as no loud music! Sorry, what I meant is it is one of those pubs that is mainly the preserve of the real ale enthusiasts (of which I'm one!). So you don't get as wide a spread of punters as you get in a 'normal' pub (which can be both a good and a bad thing). I agree the Hillsbro Hotel is a great place with fantastic beer, but I miss something of the 'normal pubness' about it, but can't put my finger on what it is though, an edge or something, or quietness. I guess I'm always looking for the perfect pub (Orwell's original 'Moon Under Water' - which doesn't exist).
