DUFFEMS
It's actually: "Broadfield" which was an Industrial School located just below Machon Bank. If you "Google" Industrial Schools you'll get an idea of what they were like and where they were situated. They were the next step before Reform Schools or Ragged Schools I suppose is the best way to describe them. Hope this explains it. Duffems
hillsbro
I also found it searching on Fanny Atkinson in Ecclesall Bierlow The industrial school situated at Broadfield must have been somewhere where Broadfield Road is now.

rubydazzler
YAY! I knew they wouldn't let you down! Even I was sort of on the track, saying they might have been apprentices My great grandparents used to live off Broadfield Road, on Broadfield Park Avenue apparently. It's all gone now though. Thanks for your vote of confidence rubydazzler, very kind of you. Incidentally, the residents of these types of schools weren't normally taken in because of committing crimes, very often they were from single parent homes, parents in prison, orphans or even just begging, so sad.
