hillsbro Posted August 30, 2009 Share Posted August 30, 2009 Yes - in the late 1950s we used to go to watch them shooting from the brick-built butt on the side of the hill; I think it's still there. Somewhere I still have a few empty .303 bullet cases. When they weren't firing we would go to the targets to pick up the lead slugs. There was a trench into which the targets could be lowered for changing etc. There was a smaller .22 range in an old quarry just above the shooting butt; I think it closed after a serious accident. It was the Sheffield & District Rifle Club that used the range in the 1950s. The club used the Robin Hood Inn as its headquarters; the range closed in 1960.
