Sheffield RUFC Beer Festival - 11-13 September

Sheffield Rugby Union Club is holding a beer festival at Abbeydale Sports Club (Abbeydale Road South, near Dore & Totley railway station), supporting the Wooden Spoon Rugby Charity and Floodlight Appeal.

 

The Festival is open

Friday 11th Sep : 17:00-23:30

Saturday 12th Sep : 12:00-23:30

Sunday 13th Sep : 12:00-16:00

 

Admission is free. All beers are £2.50 a pint or £1.25 a half.

 

Buses 97,98 and 218 pass the venue.

This event is back for 2010 this coming weekend! (10-12 September)

 

25 real ales, 8 ciders, curry shack, pork sarnies, tombola and a whole programme of things going on!

 

Free entry, reasonably priced drinks.

ABBEYDALE BREWERY, SHEFFIELD

DECEPTION - 4.1% A pale beer, made with fabulous Nelson Sauvin hops. Aromas of elderflower and grapes. Strong citrus flavours, especially grapefruit. Long lasting bitter finish. Very refreshing and packed full of flavour.

BLACK MASS - 6.66% DARK Very dark ruby ale with a rich creamy head. Aromas of dark chocolate, coffee and burnt toast. Full bodied and warming with strong flavours of bitter chocolate, fruitcake, raisins and hints of cherries. A lingering bitter finish. This is a beer brewed with complex malts and hops which give rise to complex flavours. A beast of a brew.

 

ACORN BREWERY, BARNSLEY

GORLOVKA IMPERIAL STOUT- 6 % A deep malt and hoppy aroma with liquorice throughout. Roast malts, fruit and hops also carry through this full bodied stout. Dangerously drinkable.

 

BRAMPTON BREWERY, CHESTERFIELD

BRAMPTON BEST - 4.2% Bitter, brewed using only traditional and classically English malt and hop, a good standard session beer, no frills hence why we named it simply “Brampton Best”.

SUMMER SUPRISE 4.6 % New Brew - notes to come

BUMBLE HOLE 5.2 % Sweet, smooth Amber Ale, with hints of astringency in the finish

 

CONCERTINA BREWERY, MEXBOROUGH, SOUTH YORKS

BENGAL TIGER 4.6% Also known as 1994 IPA Brewed in the style of an IPA; pale in colour, bitter and very hoppy.

ONE EYED JACK 3.9 % A dark golden rather than a light brown, this is another pleasant bitter with plenty of hop bitterness.

 

CROPTON BREWERY, NORTH YORKS

MONKMAN’S SLAUGHTER – 6 % A full bodied, powerful brew, dark brown with a distinct malty flavour, using finest crushed pale, crystal and roasted malts to give a strong and very moreish flavour

2 PINTS – 4 % A classic bitter providing a balanced hoppy flavour with a malty aftertaste

 

FOX BREWERY, HEACHAM, NORFOLK

90 MINUTE IPA – 6.0 % Mid brown in colour lots if citrusy hop flavours with a dry malyt finish. Brewed with the addition of green bullet hops to the brew for 90 minutes

NELSONS BLOOD – 5.1% Deep reddish orange beer,slightly winey. Thr taste is smooth sweet & malty with a spicy hint of liquorice& a touch of smoke. Brewed with the addition of Nelsons Blood a rum based liqueur produced by The Lord Nelson pub in nearby Burnham

 

LEADMILL BREWERY, DENBY, DERBYSHIRE

DUCHESS – 4.2 % New Brew - notes to come

B 52 – 5.2% Spread your wings! A classic beer to finish off your beer festival night out. A fruity tasty brew that won't leave you feeling carpeted.

STRAWBERRY BLOND – 4.2 % a Fruit Lambic - Lusciously fruity with a fair complexion

 

PHOENIX BREWERY, HEYWOOD, LANCASHIRE

WOBBLY BOB – 6 % Amber colour, medium sized bubbly beige head. Aroma is wooden, fruity hops along with nectar and slight alcohol. Flavour is sweet malts, nectar, some raisins and alcohol. "

 

RAW BREWERY, STAVELEY, CHESTERFIELD

GREY GHOST – 5.9 % Powerful American hopped IPA with citrus and grapefruit flavours. Smooth and deceptively easy to drink.

 

SARAH HUGHES BREWERY, BILSTON, WEST MIDS

DARK RUBY – 6 % A classic. Dark ruby brown in colour, as its name suggests. The taste is heavy, and again complex and diverse in flavours, all the tastes linger, fruits, malts, hops all blended into a huge explosion of what a great British Strong Mild should be like.

 

SPIRE BREWERY, STAVELEY, CHESTERFIELD

TWIST AND STOUT - 4.5 % A smooth creamy oatmeal stout which is well-balanced and easy to drink

BRITANNIA CREAM - 6.4 % A strong amber pale ale with a German hoppy twist giving a caramelised orange flavour

 

THORNBRIDGE BREWERY, BAKEWELL, DERBYSHIRE

COLORADO RED – 5.9 % Brewed in collaboration with Odell Brewing Co., Colorado. A fantastic American red beer, but brewed with a heady blend of the best English hops. Aroma has hints of dried fruit, rosewater, hop resins and herbal UK hops. Mouth has a well rounded bitterness, finished with hints of citrus and roasted malt.

LUMFORD - 3.9%. Golden Pale Ale, tropical fruit and and ripe berry aromas. Clean and crisp and hoppy in the mouth, with subtle malt characters, with a quite dry finish.

HALCYON - 7.7% Aroma has rich fruity hop characters. Chewy juicy malts and intense hoppiness come through in the mouth, hints of tangerines and pear drops. Ends with a well balnced bitterness

 

TIGERTOPS BREWERY, WAKEFIELD

BIG GINGER – 6 % a strong amber beer, subtly ginger flavoured

BROADOAK, SOMERSET

BRISTOL PORT – MEDIUM 7.5 % Winning Cider from last year’s SRUFC Beer Festival, back by popular demand

BROADOAK PERRY – SWEET 7.5 % One of the largest independent cider producers with a range of traditional, keg and bottled ciders. Champion perry 2009.

 

GWATKINS, ABBEY DORE, HEREFORDSHIRE

STOKE RED – SWEET 7.5 % This popularity is a result of it being a good apple to sweeten, well bodied and with

a good flavour.

 

HECKS, STREET, SOMERSET

KINGSTONE BLACK CIDER – MEDIUM 7.0% A medium-dry single variety cider made with Kingston Black Apples. Hecks' Kingston Black is a smooth, lightly acidic, well balanced cider.

 

MALVERN MAGIC CIDER, TRUMPET, HEREFORDSHIRE

MEDIUM DRY – 6.5% All produce is fermented and matured in oak barrels

 

OLIVERS PERRY, OCLE PYCHARD, HEREFORDSHIRE

MEDIUM DRY – 6.0% Olivers Cider & Perry is a producer of distinctive Herefordshire single varietals and blends. The pressed fruit is fermented by wild yeasts and then matured in oak barrels.

 

THREE CATS CIDER, MORLEY, DERBYSHIRE

MEDIUM SWEET – 6.7 % Derbyshire CAMRA members Sue and Chris Rogers have planted a new orchard, and are now making traditional cider. Most of their cider is Eastern counties style, using cookers and eaters.

 

WILKINS FARMHOUSE CIDER, WEDMORE, SOMERSET

MEDIUM/DRY – 6.0 % Roger Wilkins is a well-known cider character. The family business was set up by his Grandfather in 1917. Land's End is a working farm but Roger is always available to make a trip to the cider cellar
