bobsyouruncle
I remember my first car, i bought it off a mate for £400, boy, did he see me coming!! It was a Ford Escort 1.1L MK 2, 2 door, in metallic burgundy, reg OJX 660T. Bought it back in 1989, had an *ahem* ugraded twin cam 1600 sport engine (i never knew honest guv!) but the air filter kept falling off onto the manifold and melting, couldnt afford a proper air filter back then, so I just cut a square shape from the circle bit in an ordinary air filter. Ahhhh the good old days, I sold it for £200 about a year after as it had no t&t!

I don't know if it's still the case, but you could drive a 3-wheeler on a motorcycle licence as long as the reverse gear was not connected, (I'm going back to the late 60's/early 70's) . My irst car was a brand new Hillman Imp in 1971. It was a great little car, rear engine and rear wheel drive so no transmission tunnel. I had it for 5 years. It was great to drive in snow cos most cars then were front engine and rear wheel drive, but because the Imp's engine was over the driving wheels the grip was great. DanSumption
Mine was an 1983 silver Honda Civic. It used to be my Nanny's, she died about two weeks before my driving test and I inherited it. A lovely car, we had lots of adventures together, before I lent it to an ex-girlfriend for the weekend and she drove it into a ditch in Gloucestershire on her way back from a rave. My next car was a lot older, an Austin Maxi from 1978, I think, one careful owner and it cost me £50. A horrible beast, but it got me from A to B for almost a couple of years before, after servicing the engine myself, the perished fuel pipe which I'd spotted and intended to replace the next day must've burst and squirted petrol on the engine: I was trying to get the car started when I noticed flames licking out of the bottom of the engine and up the side of my door! littlemalc
My first car was a 1938 Morris eight, I got it in about 1963 as a direct swap for a 9.5 movie camera at the swap shop on Staniforth Rd. We went for a run from Sheffield Lane Top heading for Wyming Brook, but had to stop just before to fill up the radiator as we had a full head of steam! I messed about with this little motor for about a year before finally scrapping it, happy days!!

Drove one winter with my coat on all the time as the sill replacement compared with other cars was astronomical and as the ends near rhe front wheels had gone and it also travelled the heat in the car from the engine into the car. Other than that the car was mechanically sound.
