LibertyBell
The placebo affect will only take place if you honestly believe that the treatment is going to work. Not totally true. Some studies have shown an effect even after the subjects were told they were only getting sugar pills!!
flamingjimmy
However, there are a lot of ignorant and/or stupid people around, so if they believe it and it works for them, it is certainly cheaper than issuing real medicine to them, so i say go for it! That's pretty much my take on it too.
flamingjimmy
With the added benefit that they would be removed from the gene pool if it doesn't work hmm, I would hope that if it doesn't work they'd go to a real doctor. Or preferably the other way round.
Br8inend
It all depends on whether water has a memory or not ! The queen and the queen mother swore by it as well....... Accupunture works apparently and so does voodoo !
zongamin
However, there are a lot of ignorant and/or stupid people around, so if they believe it and it works for them, it is certainly cheaper than issuing real medicine to them, so i say go for it! Unfortunately the effects can be more serious than just letting a few hippies believe in magic medicine. Where its being used to 'treat' self limiting illnesses (which would clear up given time anyway) by idiots who have chosen to do so, that is one thing, but when it is being promoted in Africa as a CURE for AIDS and Malaria, it is entirely different. Homeopaths often encourage patients to abandon conventional treatments in favour of their bogus potions. They are directly causing thousands of deaths each year by making false claims about the treatment. ALL homeopaths share a responsibility for this scandal. pattricia
If like Prince Charles you believe that homeopathy is proper medicine, please watch Crispian Jago's funny explanation of why it is total nonsense. I also agree that its total nonsense.
Greybeard
The the annual conference of junior doctors has decalared that homeopathy is 'witchcraft' and should be banned. "Dr Tom Dolphin, deputy chairman of the BMA's junior doctors committee in England told the conference: "Homeopathy is witchcraft. It is a disgrace that nestling between the National Hospital for Neurology and Great Ormond Street [in London] there is a National Hospital for Homeopathy which is paid for by the NHS" I don't remember how it first became available on the NHS, - was Tony Blair a believer ? Anyway it's surely an opportunity to reduce some govt. spending in a sensitive area. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/alternativemedicine/7728281/Homeopathy-is-witchcraft-say-doctors.html
Phanerothyme
Add Chiropractors and Osteopaths to the list.
Cyclone
Osteopathy is closely related to physiotherapy and not at all similar to Chiropracty, I wouldn't include it in a list of unproven and suspect types of treatment.
splodgeyAl
It has to be a drop so small as to be undetectable in the water solution remember! Homeopathic Fosters sounds much better than the "normal" version
