medusa
They usually get less lumpy if you hand wash them and can feel when you're moving the filling. Get them in the bath in a solution of washing liquid and walk on them, rather than pulling them around as you would in a washing machine. Follow with rinsing in the same way and then move to the washer just for the spin cycle. They are less fluffed up with this approach, but they are more usable afterwards. Annina
If you have a drier, put tennis balls in with them, this from Kim and Aggie, the famous cleaning team.
retep
After two years of being unwashed you might as well sling them.
scousemouse
If your machine has a woollens cycle, wash them on that. Other than that ................sling them!! You should wash/replace pillows every six months.

MonkeyLover
I'd chuck em and buy "bounceback pillows" - they are brilliant! They really do bounce back to shape and last ages, without going lumpy. What with the cost of electricity, soap powder and conditioner, and all the faffing about, and getting them dry - its not really worth it.
alternageek
I use a firm pillow - stops it from going lumpy. If you dont want to waste the pillow, donate to an animal shelter as they use them for bedding.
