Notty Pie
Looking forward to this one as the last time I saw Becks and the Bullets I thought they were truly wonderful. Here is a recent review.... "The idea of Alex Turner forsaking the Artic Monkeys to start a ska-punk band might send shivers down a few spines, but the reality might not be too hideous, if Becks and the Bullets are anything to go by. A bunch of keen Yorkshire folk playing jazzy,brass-heavy pop and punkish pop-rock,The Bullets are headed by Becky Roberts. The singer-guitarist seems to fancy herself as a female equivalent of the Monkeys frontman, penning tracks that examine the minutiae of small-town life with a precise eye.Judging by their material so far, Becks and the Bullets are still a little rough around the edges, but they have sufficient cheeky humour and catchy choruses under their belts to suggest they're worth keeping an eye on. Mind you, they're not an act you'd take your mother to see. Check out Girl packs more innuendo into a five-minute pop song than you'd expect to find in an entire Carry On Film, and Roger is Fantastic is a filthy ode to a woman's best friend that would make many an indie boy blush. It's not all sauce, though; Our Last Waltz is an insightful look at break-ups, while Time captures the excitement and frustrations of a night on the town in a way that Turner would be proud of, only with added ska action. And is that really such a bad thing? Pop along and find out for yourselves. as always its FREE at The Notty and should be a great night. ellekyte
Saw them play back in May and thought they were tip top. Did the drummer used to play with Groove Armada?
Notty Pie
Did the drummer used to play with Groove Armada? Indeed he did. Other members of the band have worked/toured with a hugely diverse list of acts. From Amy Winehouse to Rolf Harris, Elton John to Evelyn Glennie. Cant wait for tomorrow night. :D NP x
