whitey68
I came across this old post when just scrolling through. George is also my great great uncle. I have been researching family tree for years and found alot of information. http://www.chrishobbs.com/sheffield/georgelawrence.htm There is also abook that has been written about George called The Forgotten Philanthropist written by Brian Ward. Would love to get in touch with any relatives to compare family trees and any old photos. http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Forgotten-Philanthropist-George-Lawrence/dp/0956347339/ref=pd_rhf_cr_p_t_1
bullerboY
By all accounts George Lawrence was a gentleman who was greatly concerned for his workers this concern cost him his life how many of today's boss's would care as much about their staff. bullerboY
Its a bit worrying that todays kids will know so very little about the great people who made Sheffield into the power house which it once was and who benifacted the city in many ways not all of them wanting acclaim for their deeds.
