They've had the right breeding and upbringing, have gone to decent schools and will have mixed with important people in industry and the financial sector throughout their lives. In a daft way you're right in that they're honest about their backgrounds and their beliefs. You don't hear Cameron waffling on about his working class background, he's quite open and honest about being an Old Etonian. Compare that to Tony Blair who got caught out claiming to be a working class fan of Newcastle United when he said he remembered sitting in the Gallowgate End at St James' Park watching Jackie Milburn play. But people don't vote on ability, they vote on petty prejudices and the party the candidate represents. For example, most people acknowledge Vince Cable would be the most capable Chancellor yet he's no chance cos his party is unelectable. Would you want The Queen to be democratically elected?
