LitleMermaid
We are doing Brimingham this year! I just love getting wrapped up in my coat and gloves when it's icy and sipping mulled wine and eating stollen and mince pies with brandy butter whilst mooching round in a crowd. EdnaKrabappe
didn't go last year as couldn't find anyone who wanted to go. However i really like it, go early, go at your own pace, don't have anything to rush back for and you'll really enjoy it. Carol singing in the church is lovely and it does make you feel Chrissmassy. However I'd not bother staying over there, unless you really want to, what about one of the Chatsworth markets? Also the ones on the ferry are really good value. BasilRathbon
As others have said, the trouble with the Lincoln one is that it's too regimented; It takes ages to get in, you have to follow a predefined route and you can't stop to look at something as you're being carried along on a tide of thousands of people and anyone who stands still gets bumped, knocked and ultimately crushed under hundreds of feet. By the time you come out the other end to enjoy your mulled wine and chestnuts, it's time for the coach home. We prefer something a tad more leisurely and, if it's not too much of an oxymoron, a less-commercialised Christmas market. On that basis I'd recommend Grassington Dickensian Market, which we did last year. That said, we were thinking of giving Durham a try this year. http://www.durhammarkets.co.uk/marquee_flyer.pdf
Glennis
When does the Birmingham one start? Brum city centre has improved no end in recent years, loads to do and see ... all very central. Good train service as well, straight into New Street Shopping Centre .. just a few minutes walk to the market area.
