After October's enormous double header of HEALTH and Johnny Foreigner, we've got another treat in store for you next Wednesday (November 4th) in the shape of BLK JKS. Truly amazing band, well worth a listen if you're unfamiliar with their stuff.

This South African quartet were part of DrownedinSound's 'Class Of 2009' - a bunch of bands we tipped for success at the start of the year, including Mercury nominees The Invisible - and here's your chance to find out why. Their debut 'After Robots' (released via the ever-reliable Secretly Canadian label) is one of most interesting and innovative records you'll hear all year, but the live show is where things really take off. Come and be blown away...

"BLK JKS give Radiohead and TV On The Radio a run for their money ... Of the dozens of 'new' bands this year [they] may be the leading candidates for greatness in 2009" - DrownedinSound.com

"A band with their own distinct, unique musical vision ... It's not hard to see why they've attracted favourable comparisons with Brooklyn visionaries TV on the Radio" - BBC.co.uk

"Like the Mars Volta, BLK JKS' best moments are roaring fusions — South African-style chants laid over Lindani Buthelezi's scorched-earth guitar leads and Tshepang Ramoba's amazingly busy drumming" - Rolling Stone

"With bands like Vampire Weekend so keen on appropriating the polyrhythmic thunder of their African peers, it's only fitting that these childhood friends should often sound like art rock sensations from Brooklyn" - The Guardian

"An angst-ridden melange of everything from psychedelic guitar freakouts to jazz brass and dubby atmospherics… What sounds difficult at first unfurls with force over repeated listens… visceral and cerebral" - Q

“Intensely creative and ludicrously talented, they have created the kind of soaring, textured prog-psych championed by TV On The Radio, with the experimental dial turned to 10 ... A challenging, subversive and inspirational record" - The Fly

"This record is unlike anything most people would have heard before… Heavily influenced by the urban Zulu blues of mbanqanga, shoegazing, roots reggae, jazzy extemporisation and hi-life… BLK JKS are an exciting, eclectic new voice" – Artrocker

What former Situationists bassist Nick Cox did next. If you're a fan of interesting pop in the harmony-drenched vein of, say, Field Music or XTC then you'd be advised to check these boys - and girls - out right now. Their Harley debut in June saw one of the busiest stages in the venue's history, but rest assured they put all those instruments to VERY good use.

"Assertive, assured, different, free-ranging ... An amazingly sure-footed debut record ... One of the most exciting things I've heard for months" - BBC 6Music

"Orchestral, lush and endlessly inventive ... Alternatingly suave and relaxed and then inquisitively scatterbrained" - ANewBandADay.com
