msbehavin
I learnt French back in the 70's at school and not really used it since. Just been on a 3 day sail across the Channel to Cherbourg and got stopped twice by French people asking me 1. the way to the showers 2. if creme fraiche coule be used with salad. I was surprised how much I undestood and managed to get back over to them. It's amazing how words come back to you when put in a situation where you have to use them. Using hand gestures (ie trying to explain a machine for shower tokens) helps of course as does the opening sentence of "Je suis Anglais, at je parle un peut Francasis malheureusement" said with an apologetic smile
fortysixer
nise one If you were taught by Miss Ekin (or was it Eakin) at De La Salle you had every opportunity of learning French. There wasn't much that was good about the place but she was - really good, in all senses of the word!
