mace
My maiden name was Cottam. My father's name was Horace. He had two brothers named Ken and John (known as Jack) and two sisters named Edna and Elizabeth (known as Betty) sadly now all deceased. My grandfather was also named Horace married to Mona. All resided in Brightside Sheffield. Can anyone help with further information regarding past relatives. Thank you Mace
Tuppie
There's a marriage on FreeBMD for Horace COTTAM and Mona RAINS. Marriages Sep 1914 Cottam Horace (Rains) Sheffield 9c 1183 Rains Mona (Cottam) Sheffield 9c 1183 Sending for this marriage certificate will confirm their father's names and verify that you have the correct family on the census. The 1911 census gives the following family at 29 Hayland St Brightside. Ambrose RAINS aged 44. Boiler Firer for Vickers Ltd born Stannington Mary RAINS/wife/49 born Tavistock Devon Elizabeth RAINS aged 20 This is crossed through so she was probably somewhere else on census night Mona RAINS aged 15 born Wincobank YKS (as all the children where) Lilly RAINS aged 12 William RAINS aged 10. Jenny RAINS aged 8 Horace Soper RAINS aged 4. They have been married 21 years. 7 children born alive and 7 children still living. This looks like the marriage given that the youngest child has a second christian name of Soper. Marriages Mar 1890 RAINS Ambrose Wortley 9c 306 SOPER Mary Wortley 9c 306 COTTAM will not be as easy. Horace COTTAM is living with his mother and Step-father in 1911. 1 Dearne St Brightside. Samuel COLEY aged 42 a Turner. Born Darlington Sarah COLEY wife/aged 41 born Sheffield Horace COTTAM step-son aged 18 Annie COLEY 9 Samuel COLEY aged 8 FrankCOLEY aged 4 Philip COLEY aged 18m all the children born Sheffield.
