SWEAT BEES (21.00)

The Sweat Bees formed accidentally on 23/9/7, when five of us found ourselves in a room together with our instruments. The line up is open to guests and special appearances, but has now settled as an eight piece. Sometimes you have to work real hard to get something great; other times it just falls into your lap. As soon as we'd done it, we knew we were onto something special.

It's open shop stylistically, ranging from trad post-rock through soviet marches and country dances into electronically manipulated noise. We've vowed never to appear with a guitar, instead opting for violin and mandolin family instruments and keyboards.

The Bees partially grew out of informal jams at Marcus' place. Some of the members have also played with Tarana, and this was the common starting point for the first Sweaty jam. Ashley had been looking for a new direction for his solo electronica project Ibly Dy, and many of the musicological ideas from that have spilled over into the Bees. What had just been a remarkable one-off jam turned into a band after a Sieben gig at the Crucible, attended by all the Bees.

The Sweat Bees live debut was in early December 2007 on a bill with other Sheffield improvised bands Tarana and Einstein. Since then we've played a good few more gigs and made hours of recordings. The first Sweat Bees release will hopefully be available to everyone soon.

TROIKA (22.00) approx

We are an original three piece who play classic and progressive heavy metal. Over the past two years we have been extensively gigging in and around Sheffield to promote ourselves and increase our loyal and ever-growing fan base. However, we are now looking to expand our popularity throughout the country and spread the Troika gospel!

The music we play is a mix of styles and influences. Our songs are fast-paced, intricate and powerful in equal parts, leading to energetic and uplifting live performances which never fail to impress. Indeed, one of our highest profile gigs was supporting prog rock legends Wishbone Ash! Andy Powell from Wishbone Ash commented on our “thoughtful arrangements, good textures and overall band sound”, further commenting “you rocked!!”. We have also gained positive press coverage after being featured as band of the week in the Sheffield Star newspaper.

SPIRAL NAVIGATORS (23.00)

Formed in 2007 by Bass Druid Cosmic Andy (Space Pirates/Psychik Hatters) and Crying Eagle(Tarana/Vestiges of Humanity).. On a mission to unite the Multifarious channels of their shared musical ancestry.... At stonehenge in 1984 Cosmic first jammed with his friends later to beome Ozric Tentacles: 25 years later the time has come to continue the story !! On the eve of Sheffstock 2007, with his former band, 'the order of things' imploded.. "If we can get some Righteous~Heavy Space~Boogie together.."..An Immortal line that began the partnership..we quickly gathered a host of great musicians from the Incipient "Improg" scene, who climbed aboard and helped us give form and dimension to the Spiral craft. Two years later our first album "Ancestral Supernovation"is near to completion: In the city where Derek Bailey began the improv free jazz in the early sixties, we have augmented a burgeoning group of bands and artists. Mixing Improg with more figurative songs, penned and sung by both Cosmic and Eagle in order to create a Fantasy Space Opera; Rebel Tales from Terran homeworlds, the story of Anthropoids thrust by fate into space, seemingly endless Journeys to distant Spiral Galaxies: from the spiralling double-helix, to Psilo induced Multiverse travelling, into Mythic pasts, midst groves of ancient woodland..Thou art that.
