wain
Any oldtimers out there remember 'siren suits?" I remember when the airraid sirens started we would jump out of bed into our suits and down the garden path to the Anderson shelter. All in about 2 minutes- or that is how long it seemed. Joanl
I can remember mine although I can't actually remember putting it on to go to the air raid shelter. It was a brown one with sort of pointy bits on the hood that looked like little ears. I remember having a "tail" fixed to it when I played a cat at infants school though. leigh k
I've got a photo of my mum standing on the back steps of her house on Helmton road, Woodseats ,wearing her siren suit. My cousin has the incendry bomb that crashed through the toilet roof at the bottom of the garden, it dropped into the loo & put itself out !... that was a lucky escape as the Anderson was only feet away !. mikeG
In a family album there's a photo of me in a navy blue sort of 'hoody' thing for a 4 year old - with sticky out ears. Could well be a siren suit. I'll have a look at the photo next opportunity.
