Lostrider
Try again Yes both links work. Brilliant shot. I bet Sheffield Libraries would like this for Picture Sheffield. Thanks for posting it Pete. It certainly looks like the same boat featured on Picture Sheffield. I wonder if it ever saw action in the blitz? What happend to it i wonder? Tellina
Since 'Alpha' appears to be relatively unknown she may have been lost during WW2. I will try and follow this up sometime and report back if I find anything. Pete
gremlin_mick
I love how the firemen all look REALLY bored, as though they'd been doing the same pose and actions for ages while the photographer got the right shot!
Tellina
Perhaps they weren't good sailors!!!

Tellina
Had the following today from Sheffield Local Studies "Thank you for your enquiry. Unfortunately I have been unable to find any references to the Sheffield fireboat. The image on Picture Sheffield came with very little information. It was donated to us in 1992. I have looked in the Centenary History of Sheffield fire Brigade, published in 1969, but there is no mention of a fireboat in the section on world war 2. I'm sorry but I can't find any other references to it in our collections....."
