WW2 - What year did the wrought iron railings go

Recommended Posts

I recall when living on Carr Road, Walkley in the mid 70's, all of the houses with large gardens had wooden gates of one form or another as we did, but one of our neighbours, a chap called Aaron Justice had fabulous wrought iron gates.....he heard they were coming to take all the ironwork away and promptly oiled his gates and buried them under his lawn....rehung them after the war!

remember reading something about a sheffield church's windows being hidden in a pit for safe keeping. trouble is, no-one knows where they hid them! so they are still down a pit somewhere.
