brocco
We're back with a festive bang for December with one of our favourite acts of the year, two hot-to-trot locals and super-secret special guests - all for £4adv. This is going to be a corker! --- Grammatics http://www.myspace.com/grammatics The Leeds-based quartet released one of 2009's finest albums in the shape of debut LP 'Grammatics', and they remain one of DiS' absolute favourite current acts. Live, they are simply magnificent. This year, Grammatics have toured with Bloc Party at the band's request and picked up critical plaudits all over the place, including second spot in DiS' Neptune Prize. This will be one of their first shows with a brand new lineup (James Field joined on drums before the Bloctober tour, and Lindsay Wison, formerly of Mother Vulpine and Sky Larkin, recently replaced Emilia Ergin on cello), and it's also their first headline show in Sheffield for over a year. You'd be foolish to miss out, frankly. “Grammatics are doing something brave and truly exceptional” - DrownedinSound “The blend of Owen Brinley's choirboy vocals and a raft of prog-tinged riffs is a source of promise, magic and drama” - Uncut “A bold, ambitious and diverse collection of songs... Frequently approaches bona fide genius” - NME “An early contender for Rock Sound's Albums Of 2009. A perfect start to the year!” - Rock Sound “Post-pop at its finest” - The Fly Tableaux http://www.myspace.com/urgenttalk Jack Fabian is one-third of local bleepmeisters Urgent Talk, and this is a rare outing for his shadowy solo side-project. It's been described as sounding like M83 with Timbaland beats, which sounds pretty darn ace to us. Bhurgeist http://www.myspace.com/woofwoofyarryarr They say: "Canine worshipping, anarcho-phile, 'lol-fi' c**ts" We say: Freaking brilliant buzzsaw garage noise-punk, featuring members of recent Leeds sensations Spectrals and Sheffield's own Naisan. Again, you don't see these playing out too often so catch them while you can. + Special Guests + DJs: Death By Shoes / Secret Diaries / DrownedinSound @ The Harley, 334 Glossop Road, Sheffield, S10 2HW 6pm £4adv, more on the door Tickets: SeeTickets - http://www.seetickets.com/see/price.asp?code=438503 WeGotTickets - http://www.wegottickets.com/event/64176 The Harley
