As the nights grow colder we’re forced to stay inside in the warmth and sweat in our woolly jumpers while gorging on mince pies and chocolate soft-centres. Our bodies have become lazy and our minds have been dulled by jingly Christmas adverts for 3 for 2 offers on d-list celebrity autobiographies and cut price bubblebath. Well it’s lucky that your monthly instalment of WHIPPOORWILL is coming along to wake you from your winter hibernation and pump some bourbon soaked boogie into your brain!

Turn off the box and say no to another Jeremy Clarkson DVD of hilarious car crashes - Throw down your knitted jumpers and dust off the crumbs - get up off that flabby couch and stand - stand up and be counted. Let the juke joint rhythms move your feet and the kind folks at whippoorwill warm your heart.

‘Tis the season to be jolly – and now you’ve got a reason…the first Saturday of the month…WHIPPOORWILL IS BACK!!

And now here’s a little about the bands – you know they’re gonna be good! . . .

THE LOVING CUP

If you’re new to The Loving Cup you’re in for a genre-mashing treat of rockin’ country and blues Americana. Their sound has been described as “warm and soulful, country-influenced rock’n’roll that has The Rolling Stones classic Exile on Main St as its overwhelming reference point. The Loving Cup possess a mean songwriting ability for creating driving anthems that positively beg to be blaring out from a soft top Chevy cruising Route 66”.

Drawing together influences such as Gram Parsons, Delaney and Bonnie, Ry Cooder and The Band, The Loving Cup’s reputation as a “good-time” rock‘n’roll band has been forged over recent years by performances across the UK on the Americana circuit and as regulars at the internationally recognised and respected Burnley Blues Festivals and The Great British Rhythm and Blues festivals.

BBC Radio Wales DJ and newspaper columnist Adam Walton likened the formation of The Loving Cup to a Dr. Frankenstein fantasy in which the mad scientist is reading his recipe:

“Keith Richard’s brain – he won’t miss it. Gram Parson’s country lilt, the swagger of Jagger, the fingers from John Squire’s left hand (currently unused), the Allman Brothers’ bottleneck, Levon Helm’s sense of rhythm.”

“An instant classic” Mark Lamarr talking about the single Bring along your lovers.

KILLING FIELDS OF ONTARIO

Support comes from Killing Fields of Ontario, formed in 2007 by Tom and Stu. In early 2008, after months of song writing, they were put in touch with musical prodigy Dave Loffman, who kindly agreed to record a demo. Dave also took up drum duties, and semi-legendary 'Rocketeers' front man James "Roadkill" Brooks stepped in on bass to complete the line up.

'A blend of toe-tapping Americana, banjos, Chili Peppers guitars and country-inflected Jack White vocals: more than your average Leeds wannabes' - Vibrations Magazine July 2009

'The frontmen swapped between guitar, banjo, mandolin and keyboards to produce a sumptuous set rich in variety, texture and nuance. On a couple of occasions all 4 musicians sang beautiful a capella breaks which tingled the spine' - Live Review by counterfeitmag.co.uk
