FranceStyria
Tuesday 24th November 2009 A very, very special night at The Grapes, Trippet Lane. Always a good place to hear acoustic music, the Grapes has the setting, the atmosphere and the location that makes folk and roots music perfectly at home here. Here's some blurb: LOUIS ROMEGOUX myspace.com/louis_romegoux Louis is an Anglo-French folk musician born, raised and residing in Sheffield, England. Drawing on influences from both sides of the channel as well as a few from across that larger Atlantic pond, Louis sound captures the essence of folk in its raw, free flowing form encompassing ever expanding boundaries, the fluidity and freedom of Louis music keep his live performances fresh and exciting every time. -"With a cut to the chase lyrical talent he is here to remind us that a guitar and a single voice can make us feel much more than a fashion statement. For his age Louis is a prodigy - nothing short of astounding", Sandman Magazine Sheffield -"...misty but clear, his songs leave you turning. Suspended chords make you feel like he’s never quite settled anywhere. Expelling his soul with his voice, it’s warm, rounded and filled with softness; hanging like some force in the air before whispering goodbye." Sandman Magazine live review RICHARD MASTERS richardmasters.co.uk/ -"...dig out the cloudy scrumpy , dig up the mandrake root . Empty the room of all soft furnishings. Inform all close friends that you have taken a sudden, unexpected leave of absence. .Close all the curtains , turn off the lights. Slump blindfolded and drunk into a hard wooden chair , turn up the stereo and listen." Keith Angel (Mar 18, 2009) -"Richard Masters took to the stage first with a set of songs reminiscent of such folk troubadors as Martin Carthy, Jacques Brel and Jake Thackray. Witty, satirical and darkly fascinating, possessed of a charismatic but good humoured stage presence - Masters is several cuts above and to the left of most purveyors (and pretenders) of the genre. In short - a natural." Francine McAlistair (Apr 25, 2008) RACHEL JAMES BAND myspace.com/racheljamesandband Rachel James comes complete with 2 other members; the eccentric Paul Simon Crompton plays bass, and the unique Mike Brennan plays all kinds of percussion. Rachel James is the voice of-course and the guitar player, aswell as songwriter of the trio. Style? Have a listen and decide for yourselves. However probably blues, fusion, folk with hints of this that and the other here and there. Rachel James and band have gigged extensively all around the country and look forward to 2010. Think it'll be 3 or 4 quid on the door! Come along!
