epiphany
Politics goes beyond the simplistic left-right dichotomy we seem to be so obsessed with. There are specific elements of reform that can be made to the economic system that are ultimately needed for long term sustainability and social justice that many would label "socialism" in that typically unhelpful derogatory manner. There are also elements of reform that suggest a more conservative approach is more sensible. However, this country is suffering from a democratically terminal psychosis whereby we are unable to look deeper than mere facades of association. "I'm slightly left of center" "I'm a liberal" "I'm right wing" "I'm a brain dead moron"
logiebaird
It would not matter how bad things were in this country, I could never vote Tory mmm some would say they never voted for a dictator but it is becoming apparent from the 4 day old Iraq enquiry that by voting for Blair they probably did. Letter revealed in evidence as known to Blair but kept from the cabinet.
Linesman
Indeed. But the last 20 years seem to show that both right and left have both failed, both rather dramatically. Where that leaves us who knows. The main difference is that the tories under Thatcher had no shame for how it decimated British Industry as well as selling off public assets' whereas the so called new labour are guilty of deception for they really are closet tories hiding behind a false PC smokescreen to pretend to be labour. hooch
Under the Labour Government over the last 10 years ,many things have changed like free nursery places for every 3 and 4 year old, increase in child benefits, minimum wage, minimum state pension has increased since 1997, winter fuel allowance, free national travel pass for the over 60's, these are just a few. My mother has always voted Conservative but says she's never been better off under the Labour Government. Just look around Sheffield and you can see what a beautiful diverse city we are, and what Labour has achieved, Winter Gardens,Peace Gardens, and all the new Business that are coming into Sheffield, and securing funding of £620 million for every road and street lighting in Sheffield. Well said!!! It always surprises me how clever the media are at convincing people how much better off they'd be under the Tories, when the reality is that only a few very rich people will be better off! Aries22
I will vote for anyone except Conservative or Labour, hoping it may be a "hung" parliament, that will show them how people think about either of them.

There are 4 million children living on or below the poverty line in the UK after all these years of a so called socialist government. Another fact is that the wealth gap between the poor and wealthy has widened since Tory Bliar came to power with socalled 'New Labour' more like 'Old Tories'
