suprisestorm
Do you remember Fri, Sat , and Sunday drinking and socialising in the Wheatsheaf , Prince of Wales , Rising Sun , and then all packed into a car and bombed out to Derbyshire ..various locations like Lathkildale , Hathersage , and very often the Old Hall at Hope where Jolly Jack Jones would serve you till the early hours .They had jazz music and Jack would come and play double bass with white jacket and cigar. This would be followed by a race back to Sheffield ..damn that breatherliser! alex3659
We lived on jordanthorpe and would catch the last bus for one stop up to coal aston to get a later drink. Saturdays last orders in Sheffield were 1o-30 pm and sundays 11pm, one stop on the bus and we were in another county and got later drinking hours legally. Morts
It's a wonder we're still here to tell the tale! I remember seven of us piling into a Ford Prefect-including one in the boot-and going into Derbyshire. There was a pub on the way to Castleton that later got converted to a cider house, piano played in the corner and that's all I can remember of that night. Just been done up!
Morts
That's the one! Was there a limit on the number of drinks of cider they could serve you. If not, there should have been!
Texas
Back in the 50's, down at the City Hall dances, somebody would occasionaly organize a trip to a pub in Derbyshire. The one at Monsal Head was a favorite. Personally I can't remember details for obvious reasons, but they were great times.
Tony Shaw
Back in the 1950's the local pubs closed at 10 p.m. and like many others we dashed into Deryshire as the closing time was 10.30 On one occasion at a certain pub in Derbyshire where you could nearly always get a drink well after time, I well remember ordering three pints, picked them up when the door opened and the local bobby walked in. On seeing the expression on my face, the landlord quickly explained that he had just called in for his supper!! This was all well before breathalizers, MOT testing and wearing seat belts. Memories memories!!!
mikeG
I remember vaguely going a few times to the pubs at Monsal Dale and Lathkilldale?? on a Saturday as they always had a group playing. Don't know if Jo Cocker and Dave Berry got out there but a fair number of Sheffield bands did.
