well i`m only 40 but this is a great thread.

as i`m a map freak is the old harrow to phoenix the nearest cross border pub dash??

be a bit of local history if it is for england.

sounds like you all had fun and a raging thirst on.

Fleur de lys to the Peacock

Strines to the Ladybower

But how about the Royal Oak on Hollinsend Road to the Birley Hotel?

No I've cracked it, the Fox House to The Millstone or The Grouse, or perhaps I haven't, the Old Harrow to the Phoenix is a bloody good shout.

This brings back memories.....

The Grindstone at Hathersage

Stoke Hall at Grindleford

"Whatsitsname" Hotel at Bamford (recently demolished)

Rising Sun near Bamford

Moon Inn at Stoney Middleton

The pub crawl in Bakewell

The Barrel.....somewhere near Bradwell

And Bradwell cafe afterwards for an all day breakfast in the early hours.

I remember you had to climb an outside metal staircase (like a fire escape) to enter the upstairs cafe.

The Barrel at Bretton was its name.

One of the best was The Miners at Eyam.

We were in there one night, about midnight, the place was thronging.

Then three coppers walked in.

A sergeant and two coppers, they walked up to the bar, said 'We are coming back in two hours and we expect you to be closed'

The Landlord gave them a pint apiece, and they went on their way.

At 2am as promised they came back, as they walked in, the Landlord put the towels on, and asked us all to drink up. :hihi:

They were great days indeed.:)

We used to go to Ye Derwent Hotel in Bamford for a game of bar billiards. Occasionally the landlord would forget what time it was but normally it was 11.30 ish before he locked up. It's looking a bit dilapidated now, maybe it's closed??

Not a "dash to a pub" as such but who remembers the Landlord of the Cutlers at Herdings,a Polish bloke I think, can't remember his name. When I was part-time taxi driving for Abbey Cabs in 1969 I used to reckon my cash up about 5-00pm on a saturday in the pub car park and he would let me in early for a gargle, bless him:hihi:

Was his name Joe?

Why were the licensing laws in Sheffield at the time so draconian?. I can't believe people had to drive to villages in Derbyshire to have a late night drink.
It was like a racetrack going up to foxhouse, and dangerous.:)
