Small Ideas Presents:

Thursday 3rd December 2009

The Harley, 334 Glossop Road, Sheffield

Adv/Members: £3.50

Marvins Revolt (Denmark) http://www.myspace.com/marvinsrevolt

As Rocksound put it: Whether it’s the mbaqanga-meets-DC flutter of ‘Deliberate Deeds’, ‘All Who Float Have Not Sunk In’…s art-rock terrace chant or the stunning harmonic flourishes of ‘Times Will Change’, you’ll be discovering fresh shards of beauty listen upon listen. 9/10

As they themselves say: We make angular and catchy tunes. Hard hitting rhythms combined with joyful and romantic melodies creates an ever changing, but always meaningful musical landscape. The songs appear as intense, challenging and melodic structures, with disregard for songwriting rules.

Promoting their new album, these guys are seriously not ones to miss if you like mathy, ridiculously complex time signatures coupled with immediate hooks and abrasive guitars!

Screaming Maldini - http://www.myspace.com/screamingmaldini

As Tom Robinson (BBC6 Music) puts it: “WOW!...assertive, assured, different, free-ranging...it's an amazingly sure-footed debut record...one of the most exciting things I've heard for months.”

We think you'll love these guys - catchy, clever pop music in a similar vein to Grammatics but more fun.

On Histories of Rosenberg - http://www.myspace.com/ofrosenberg

Q Magazine had this to say: "Am I Awake glides unctuously through soft melodies that follow a refreshing linear structure... a pleasing, Sigur Ros style tsunami of oddly timed distortion that descends to a twinkling end... we give these autumnal charmers the thumbs up."

Made up of ex members of Caesura, one of the UK's best prospects in regards to singalong post-rock, and they've just released their debut album too.

Sigmund F*cked His Mum - http://www.myspace.com/sigmund****edhismum

Sounds like: "The residue of your loins being smeared all over your face" or "That's where the baby sleeps". Loud and with indie trip-hop-post-punk-rock-electro tendencies, these guys are ace. End of. "Don Caballero meets Shellac meets Chicago"- The Wick at Both Ends' Sound man.
