On Wednesday December 23rd The Wagon's Wheels roll for the final time and we've a fine trio of local acts to see off the year. Making a long overdue return to The Grapes stage will be Lomas. Following the recent departure of their drummer there'll be a stripped down set from Chris Murphy & Boxer Genius, plus WireTown kick off the show. Doors open at 8pm and entry is just £3.

***LOMAS***

Lomas are a band with a belief in strong lyrics, colourful melodies, solid arrangements and tons of soul. Style skits across genres from grunge to country via brit pop and garage rock, but never varies from their own unique sound. Difficult to pigeonhole, the band once known as Ebb-Tone combine beautiful three part harmony vocals, their indie roots nicely augmented with country vibes.

***CHRIS MURPHY & BOXER GENIUS***

Chris Murphy & Boxer Genius are a band that have got something beautiful to share. The band, formed by Murphy, have developed a powerful, epic, folk-rock sound that has arrested the attention of the city and surrounding areas to the fact that current indie rock has a major successor in-waiting.

Murphy is coy about his songwriting abilities - and it's a clear distinction to the common sound of much of the charts. He conceded in a Sheffield Star interview in August that "It's sad fact that there is still a lot of stuff in the UK that sounds like it's been cut from the same cloth. I don't really want to be a part of that."

With the full band on hiatus, tonight will see a pared down set of the same fine tunes.

***WIRETOWN***

WireTown are a Sheffield band who officially formed in 2007 having been around in various forms before that. Featuring Leon Lockley on lead vocal, guitar and mandolin, plus Alex Hardy on bass guitar and vocals, they recently reverted to a three piece with the addition of Simon Latham on drums and percussion. Drawing on a wide range of influences they have been busy working on new material with the expanded line up and you can expect to hear a lot more from them in 2010.
