I see, so last time I got a black cab on Christmas Eve/Morning and went 7 miles home to Dronfield and he tried to charge me £30 he was indeed attempting to rip me off?

At last 'The licensing board' have got the rules on display for customers. I hope you are going to announce it in the 'Star' Redrobbo?

Also to remind customers to get there badge and plate number if their not happy with what they are charged.

These tables of fares are required to displayed by law in every Black Cab.

Also any proposals to change the fares must be advertised in the local press for a set period beforehand.

Redrobbo - does this mean the extra £2 far goes into Council coffers?

Without wishing to stand on redrobbos toes........

The council merely set the maximum fares as the law allows. All monies taken by the drivers belong to them as they are self employed. The council do not receive 'a cut'.

Hired a Mercury cab from Lodge Moor to Division Street yesterday daytime.

Once in the cab, we were told it was time and half, being Christmas.

Thus, a journey covering what, 4 miles cost £8.35.

Either you are having us on or you have been had.;)

Were you were too drunk to rationalise this isn't Christmas week and paid the fare? In which case being that drunk you shouldn't be recalling such detail or you can plead insanity as a defense for paying such extortionate fare.:hihi:

My guess is you are just stirring:suspect:

At last?

These tables of fares are displayed in every black cab along with the copy of the driver's badge. The table of fares also gives info on what to do in case of a warranted complaint. This displaying of such information in every cab has been a condition of license for a long long time and not something new as you assume.

The £2 extra charge for the festive season has been for at least ten years or more but people seem to be conditioned to believe cabs charge double fare or fare plus a half. Even the Private hire have now fallen in line with council charging policy and advertise the fact of only £2 charge over and above the normal fare.

Thanks for the clarification Spuggy - thought the council were levying a £2 Christmas tax on taxi users for a moment there.
