You can't beat a good Christmas show, especialy when you've got one of Sheffield's most promising acts as the star guests.

Alvarez Kings

http://www.myspace.com/alvarezkings

So many guitars and post Libertines impersonators, all looking for their five minutes of fame while poufing their hair into sky high configurations of hairspray. Yet sometimes ears are pricked towards something decisive and skilled. A quirky set of songs with tub-thumping base lines, skuzzy guitars and punchy harmonies, all brought to you by four delicious men who are unafraid to enjoy their musical task.

Labels have been pressing the band for some time now but the boys want time to perfect their tunes without too much pressure. Now the tracks are finally shaping into zippy close-knit creations. “Two To Tango” is deliberately aggressive punchy indie floor filler while “Picking Up The Pieces” is an invitation to radio play. The chemistry both live and behind the scenes has helped to create some instant classics with the groovy crowd pleaser “You, Me, Them, Us”, which was chosen Myspace Radio Track Of The Week, and the unique sound of “Is That What She Said”.

Simon attests to this: “I’m really pleased with what we have, and it means our live shows really up the ante. What are you doing if every second isn’t completely driven, fantastic and lunatic?”

Indeed the band’s explosive live show is selling the band far and wide. Fresh from supporting bands such as The Enemy, Bloc Party and One Night Only, as well as headlining some of the best venues around including 2 slots at the infamous Club NME @ Koko, London, the sheer animal fun that exudes from the close knit gang ensures a dancing crowd everywhere they go. Volatile, tapped and ready to freak, Alvarez Kings are on a precipice that cannot fail to see them pummel the airwaves with passion and precision.

What They’re Saying:

“Alvarez Kings could raise the dead with their beguiling brand of indie-pop perfection pulsating through the ether. So infectious, it'll have you foaming at the mouth for more.” - SANDMAN

“bucket-loads of attitude with cut-throat guitar riffs and a gritty charm” - NME

“We've got a proper good feeling about this lot - and we're rarely wrong” – EXPOSED MAGAZINE

"One thing's for sure, Alvarez Kings are Yorkshire's next big thing. And if you aren't already listening to them, then I strongly recommend you do" - RE:PLAY MAGAZINE

"With buckets of raw energy, funk-infused baselines and soulful vocals… this four-piece are sure to reign at Club NME KOKO this week. " – NME

Why not chuck in one of Sheffields most talented and hard-working bands too.

Driftrun

http://www.myspace.com/driftrunband

"Driftrun hit the stage one man down but no less impressive, delivering a pitch perfect and polished performance. The bands rapport with the crowd was impressive proving the genuine worth of a talented band."

Red Stripe Music Awards- March 2009

"Headlining, Driftrun opened with the solid 'Mellor Road', then played good pop tracks until late in the set when they stepped up a gear with the excellent 'Lots to Learn', infectious Oasis riffs, great vocals and understated lead guitar. closing with the hevier 'The message' the set had a good start but wonderful ending."

Sandman Magazine- February 2008

"If you like your music with catchy melodies, infectious riffs and an upbeat sound that makes you want to throw yourself around, then its definately worth checking Driftrun out before they hit the big time."

Manchester Unsigned Magazine- September 2008

"For some reason Driftrun are not signed with world wide success, and to be honest, like with you, I havn't got a clue why? Simply amazing springs to mind!!"

Kev @ Unsigned Magazine- December 2008

"The type of band all acts to aspire to!"

Adam @ Blue Vinyl Studios, Manchester - December 2008

SUMMING up a band's entire repertoire in just three tracks is a tall order.

And Sheffield's Driftrun have chosen well – their three-track self-titled EP covers all ground: rocky, mid tempo and slow.

Waiting for Angelina is the stand-out track. The slow, mellow introduction provides respite from the densely-layered Something Missing and Mellor Road. Waiting for Angelina is soaring, with complementary touches of piano.

Rachael Clegg @ Sheffield Telegraph - January 2009

With Sheffield's rascally upstarts.

The Spires

http://www.myspace.com/thespiresmusic

"We have found an unsigned band that sound absolutely amazing! We have had hundreds of entries. I am pleased to anounce that we have the best unsigned act in South Yorkshire supporting INXS at the City hall. THE SPIRES!! ''

[big John at Breakfast, Hallam FM]

The Creative Corporation

"A Cathedral of beautiful sound, The Spires. One of the bands to keep an eye on in 2009!"

[Dave Stansbie, Creative Director - The Creative Corporation]

The Spires @ The Boardwalk, Sheffield

"The Spires kicked out a 24 carat hatrick. A hot chunk of rock that won me over completely. The Spires have killer tunes."

[Radio Coma Magazine]

The Spires @ Bar Matrix, Sheffield

Here tonight are the Spires. A band with something to say, and more importantly a band with something worth listening to, so worth listening to in fact that tonight they get an encore. The standout track of the evening being the edgy and Cure inspired ’17 Years’. Musically tighter than Fern Britten’s size ten cocktail dress, they play with an energy that only rightly justified self confidence can bring. This is certainly a band to make you stop and think.

[Tom Bowen, Sandman Magazine]

The Spires @ The Leadmill, Sheffield

The local support for the mid week Leadmill gig, The Spires are one of the most engaging and entertaining bands on the Sheffield circuit at present. This electro-rock outfit draw influences from four decades of music, throw it into the melting pot with nitro-glycerine until it explodes in an adrenaline fuelled performance that gives you the buzz live music is intended to do. This electro-rock outfit has a distinguished sound that pushes the boundaries of rock-pop. The guitars thrash and grind with heavy drums and swirling keyboard, and a buoyant front man not only draws in the crowd with his energetic rapport, but can also hold a note. Exhausting.

[Richard Oldale, Sandman Magazine]

And one for luck - emerging talents.

Kartica

The sparkling peaks of musical genius. The darkest depths of talentless crap. All that caught the ear of the ordinary man.
