On Saturday January 9th, WagonWheelMedia's Americana Night begins the third year of it's monthly residency at Sheffield's finest venue, The Grapes. To kick off 2010 we have a great double bill of local bands in the shape of Pete David & The Payroll Union and Socrates Johnson. As ever between the live acts there'll also be the finest in Alt-Country records to treat your ears to. Doors open at 8pm and entry is just £3.

***PETE DAVID & THE PAYROLL UNION***

Sheffield based singer/songwriter Pete David has been performing around the city for several years. During the last year he started performing live with a full band, The Payroll Union. Classic Americana with elements of traditional American folk and country. All the yodellin', banjoin', stompin', kazooin', parpin', pickin' and pluckin' you could want for an old time good time.

***SOCRATES JOHNSON***

Sheffield four piece Socrates Johnson, an acoustic bluesy rock n' roll band, were formed in 2007, originally under the name Troubadour, by Andy Davison and Matt Flowers. Recent new addition Ewan Asburn on drums/percussion, and Paul Ward on bass joined in the summer of 2008 complete the line up. In 2008 recording of songs that would make the debut album 'Providence and Fate' were completed. Since then they've been building their reputation as a quality live act.
