Pubs on commercial st 1960's

can you help me, my oh seems to think there used to be a pub on commercial st, he can't remember the name. he says they used to serve drinks to your table, could be kings head, it also had large revolving doors. did this pub exist or is he dreaming. thanks.

seem to remember a pub called stone house somewhere near there.

the stonehouse was up near the cathedral. the pub he is thinking of is more down towards ponds forge swimming baths.

Yes it did , revolving doors too.

It was the`Kings Arms` number 12 Commercial St.It closed in 1973.

So, looking at the buildings in the picture, this pub would have been roughly where the bBig 1950s/ 60s looking Barclays bank building is now?

It was the Kings Head and it was a Higsons house, a Liverpool Brewery that owned it. It was one of only two pubs in Sheffield that had revolving doors the other being the Athol on the corner of Charles St & Pinstone St, the Athol is still there but its a slot machine arcade but you can still see the name over the back entrance on Burgess St. Oh yes there was a Pianist in there playing a Grand Piano at the week-ends.
