richd136
it depends on the shop, traders have these machines in order to make money hence the charge. the machines are in the main owned and run by private companys who are licensed to link into the main banks. the charge you pay is split between the shop owner and the providing company. i personally avoid using them unless i have no other choice, i always go to a major bank machine, these in the main are free to use. I assume, from that FAQ, that the PayPoint company do not allow shopkeepers to charge for the use of the machine.

If this is the case then what's in it for the shopkeeper? Why would he give space up for nothing?
HotPhil
They may be paid a small fee they get from PayPoint. They also get extra foot traffic. I couldn't see from a quick look on their website if the retailer pays PayPoint or vice versa.
