Drone attacks..

Recommended Posts

"Missiles fired by a suspected US drone aircraft have killed at least five people in north-west Pakistan, intelligence officials said."

Criticised as extrajudicial killings by the UN Human Rights Council, hundreds of drone attacks take place every year across Afghanistan, Pakistan and now Yemen.

Besides the obvious moral questions of civilian 'collateral damage' these attacks take place without trial, based on the same (perhaps dubious) intelligence sources that took us to war in Iraq.

So, drone attacks, the way forward or moral abomination?

For my money, moral abomination, blatant provocation in order to generate unrest that it might stimulate sales of 'defence infrastructure' in these areas.

Drones necessary when Pakistan and Yemen are known hideouts for terrorists and yet deny any access to outside military forces. insisting correctly that their territorial integrity must be respected

The choice for them is there. Either drones or forced intervention from outside

Drones may occasionally kill "innocents?" (as they claim) but it's a better alternative to the other

People get killed in war, they always have. Civilians get killed in war, they always have. It is a fact of war. Just regard Drones as being a more technologically advanced version of suicide bombs. Suicide bombs kill many more civilians than Drones.

But aren't suicide bombs considered a despicable moral outrage? If drones are just a more advanced despicable moral outrage, we shouldn't be using them.

Actually Drones can target individuals VERY precisely, suicide bombs cannot. In reality there is far less chance of civilians being killed by a drone than by a suicide bomb. My original comment was made really to counter the presumed outrage felt by the OP of America using Drones. Indeed suicide bombs are a moral outrage unlike Drones which are very clinical weapons. But mistakes still happen.

Which orifface are you talking out of it speaks to me of verbal diarrhoea,

Do you not think that that the people our troops and even the Americas are fed up with the idiots who want to kill others in the name of Islam.

Grow up

No more so than we're equally fed up with those who want to kill others in the name of God. Have you forgotten that both Bush and Blair claimed religious authority for the invasion of Iraq?

So we cant use drones, obliged to respect territorial integrity, in other words do nothing while they breed in Yemen and Pakistan, training suicide bombers to come to our side of the world and carry out their despicable acts?

Suicide bombings are an act of war and the war needs to be brought home to them one way or another
