GLIMPSE

[ Cadenza | Planet E | Glimpse Recordings | Crosstown Rebels | Kompakt ]

cargo & UG residents

Well we've hardly had chance to draw breath from last months raucus romp which witnessed the harmonious coming together of tried and tested Urban Gorilla, the ambitious Cargo faction and the seminal surrounds of SAWA. A tasty threesome that you fiesty folk gladly made a 200 and something-some!

And what better way to follow on from our amazing launch party than to introduce GLIMPSE to the Steel City.

Glimpse is an artist that literally has the planet by the balls. Just check out his touring schedule on his myspace page. Seeing Sheffield nestled in amongst the likes of Miami, San Fransisco and Tokyo coupled with bringing Glimpse to the city for the first time gives us a warm and fuzzy feeling inside! And we're sure that's how you'll be feeling as he entertains SAWA's intimate loft.

Glimpse is one of house musics most saught after production talents. With labels like Cadenza, Crosstown Rebels and Carl Craigs mighty Planet E queuing up to release his tracks its clear to see why DJ Mags 2009 Producer of the Year is in such hot demand. And if you don't trust DJ Magazines word (what do they know?) – come and check out what this boy can do on the 20th. We'll be seeing you!

PS: Of course we wouldn't dare let cargo+ug #2 pass by without the obligatory after party! We ran out of passess last month so don't be left out in the cold – GET YOURS ASAP! (FREE passes are available from the DJ booth or just collar one of the cargo+ug crew).

PPS: Last months launch night saw SAWA sell out of booze! (who'd a thunk it on the 3rd week in January?!) Whoops... so we closed a little early. Or on the brightside; we opened the after party early! YAY! Never fear the team at SAWA have seen what a thirsty throng you are and will be sure to keep the next party lubricated till 4am.

A bit of info about Glimpse

2009 was a fantastic year for Christopher Spero aka Glimspe. The last few months have seen him release The 'Drifting E.P. on Carl Craig’s Planet E Label, a new E.P. on Cadenza, a release on his own Glimpse Recordings imprint with Kompkat and a release on Get Physicals sister label Kindisch. During 2009 he has also been composing his debut studio album on Four Twenty Records entitled 'Runner' due out in October. Whilst also touring with his live show in Japan, Australia, South and North America and Europe.

From an early age, Christopher Spero had an interest in jazz, blues and techno, performing in several bands and releasing electronic music on various U.K. based labels under different aliases (Attic, Olek, and Spero). He then studied sculpture at Central Saint Martin’s art college until 2000, after which he started up Glimpse Recordings with Kompakt. Glimpse is one of a few UK labels to be distributed through the Cologne-based company.

Glimpse’s records have been regular fixtures in the boxes of Ricardo Villalobos, Marco Carola, Luciano, Loco Dice, Francois K, Ritchie Hawtin, Magda, Jeff Mills, Troy Pierce, Konrad Black, Laurent Garnier, Carl Craig, Derrick May and Adam Beyer amongst many others. Many of the tracks have been signed to numerous compilations including Richie Hawtin’s Minus imprint.
