This hotly tipped Brighton trio made one of the 2009's best debuts with '33'. That they take their name from a Danish fairytale involving cruelty and ritual slaughter is appropriate; theirs is a dark, literate sound that imagines what 'Kid A' would sound like if Portishead recorded it. In other words, they are utterly, utterly brilliant.

“Esben remind you of the malice in wonderland, the beauty in horror and the horror in beauty” – The Guardian

“It’s Siouxsie and the Banshees or Early Cure, but with a dark digital edge that haunts the same shadowy forests as Fever Ray” - NME

“Instantly captivating… Like walking into a hidden attic full of ancient maps, portraits, furniture and ephemera… Romantic and gothic, a shadow of something intangible and otherworldly” - The Quietus

“A haunting, evocative blend of electronica, gothic melancholia, and the dynamics of post-rock… Startlingly accomplished for a new group” - The Stool Pigeon

“Dark, sensual cinematic fusion that blends the hi-tech with the traditional… A flow of music that would have the Mercury judging panel salivating, their pulses racing and gushing plaudits out one after another.” Loud & Quiet

If the support slots a band has played are any indication of their quality (and, let's face it, they often are) then Sian Alice Group are bloody amazing – and guess what? They totally are. Deerhunter and Gang Gang Dance, two of DiS' absolute favourite acts, invited the band to tour with them last year. Come and find out why.

"Sian Alice Group have destroyed the myth that at the moment only our Stateside cousins are capable of producing genuinely innovative music that defies classification" - Drowned in Sound

"One of the most underrated bands in the whole world" - Time Out

“Sian Alice Group create music that could soundtrack your wildest dreams” – Dazed & Confused

"An amalgamation of folk rock, prog, and dance with influences ranging from Hounds Of Love–era Kate Bush to Bat For Lashes to Gang Gang Dance. The experimentation with different genres and instruments leaves the audience enthralled" - VenusZine

"The rock aesthetes in Sian Alice Group have a fetish for tones and textures, from electronic pulses and Velvets-like riffs to scratched guitar strings, which they tweak, layer, and slowly fade throughout" - XLR8R
