Americana Night @ The Grapes on Saturday February 13th will be an all acoustic affair. Joining us this month we have Cold Light Of Day frontman Huw Costin promoting his debut solo record 'Regrets', Barnsley bluesman come folkie Richard Kitson and the newly arrived on the Sheffield scene Jonny Kay. There'll be the usual mix of great records between the live acts and this musical treat will set you back just £3. Doors open at 8pm.

***HUW COSTIN***

Huw Costin is a singer-songwriter known for his emotional vocal style, melancholic lyrics, and a penchant for writing nifty pop songs when the mood takes him. Influenced by the folk, country, and rock of the 60s and 70s, as well as the Nottingham ambient scene of the early 90s, and though compared to Big Star and Ian Brown, Costin takes inspiration from a more eclectic body of sounds and players in the creation of his own music. Critically acclaimed for his solo work and work with his bands Manatee and Earth the Californian Love Dream, he now records and performs with The Cold Light Of Day. Debut album 'Regrets' is out now on Special Sound Unit records.

"an emotive recollection of a love gone wrong" 4 stars. UNCUT magazine.

***RICHARD KITSON***

Lying somewhere between folk and blues, Richard's acoustic songs tend to reflect upon experiences, places, and relationships. He uses his solo gigs as an opportunity to pay homage to the bluesmen who started it all and also to excercise his softer troubador side with his fusion of country, delta blues and folk. Popular with Blues fans for his nods to the likes of Big Bill Broonzy and Blind Boy Fuller, Richard has a new album on the way which promised to see him explore more of his folk and story telling side.

***JONNY KAY***

Growing up listening to Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, BB King, other such blues greats and sixties British invasion bands such as The Beatles, The Kinks, The Animals and The Rolling Stones, music was always important to North Easterner Jonny Kay. The Britpop scene was the inspiration for picking up a guitar for himself, learning how to play songs whose writers he'd idolised. Written mostly about the things that are going on in life, his oen music is forever biographical without ever knowingly giving too much away. Currently recording his debut album.
