Greybeard
Where was Sturton road exactly ? Not shown on current Google maps. I've an idea what the ruins might have been if it's the location I'm thinking of.

Greybeard
With you now mart. Yes the ruins you remember were at Osgathorpe Cottage - I think there is an old people's home on the site now. Here are some photos of the derelict oubuildings from 1950... http://www.picturesheffield.com/cgi-bin/picturesheffield.pl?_cgifunction=form&_layout=picturesheffield&keyval=sheff.refno=y02146 http://www.picturesheffield.com/cgi-bin/picturesheffield.pl?_cgifunction=form&_layout=picturesheffield&keyval=sheff.refno=y02143 and of the house at that time http://www.picturesheffield.com/cgi-bin/picturesheffield.pl?_cgifunction=form&_layout=picturesheffield&keyval=sheff.refno=y02142 and in 1870 when it was all country still - http://www.picturesheffield.com/cgi-bin/picturesheffield.pl?_cgifunction=form&_layout=picturesheffield&keyval=sheff.refno=s05797 The outbuildings were much older than 1870, probably part of a 16th century farm originally. martS5
i used to walk over the ridge to School, depending how muddy it was i would either walk through the horses field, or go over the top through what was left of the cottage/hall,spent many hours at crabtree pond if i could get through the snicket gate next to the house. I live in Spain now and was just remembering the early 60's
