jamesogt
Climax is no more. It's now called Proud: https://www.shefnews.co.uk/2017/10/20/sheffield-student-union-launches-new-lgbt-club-night/ Its once a month, on a Friday, in the same building, in the same room. Its Climax by a new name.
Kelwilliams
Hi we are heading into town and am researching The city’s gay / drag scene and was wondering what / who is good and where to go, I can’t find much info on many Sheffield drag queens people have told me to look up penny change ? Electric Blue ? Tia Anna?
jamesogt
OMG is now free, dropped all weekend door charges. "You spoke, we listened" was their headline. I might suggest that they listened and did nothing for 2 years, and now it is so bad they have to listen..... Tick tock. Just proves that Sheffield is a different beast to a lot of other cities as they seem to do OK in Bristol and Plymouth at least.

I did read somewhere that many of the pubs and clubs at the heart of Manchester's 'gay village' are also struggling. Perhaps it's many people's financial struggles and changing patterns of socialising that are having an impact....Though, as I said earlier, Sheffield's gay scene has been poor for many years - even though it's one of the UK's bigger cities. Ive got gay friends who tell me Gay Pride in Sheffield is very poor . They say the Pride events in some other smaller cities and even towns are far better

jamesogt
please tell us more It's pretty simple to be fair. There is very little to no major funding for the event. Sheffield people do not like to pay for things Hence they have never been able to build it to the point of recruiting major acts, the usual draw for a gay pride event. Instead the current committee is a group of pretty left wing, all inclusive, free for all encouraging people. Therefore instead of the usual Gay pride weekend drinking based events, it is much more family friendly with a hint of anarchy left tendencies ! It is also held in a park circa 1.5 miles from the city centre. Where as Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester etc are all city events based in their "Gay quarters". They have even more funding issues this year and are already asking people that can afford to, to contribute. So it can be kept as "free for all". Which really doesn't make a lot of sense as it does actually mean that those that can afford to, are paying for those who can't or don't want to. Probably the reason they have funding issues, is because no one is really interested. I've been to the one in the park before, it rained all the time, same old faces you see everywhere. Would not go again. Its good to hear OMG is now free entry. Will probably go in the summer months. July maybe. GinTreeS7
Is it true that OMG is now open only on Thur/Fri/Sat/Sun ? Interesting .... Also I still hear a lot of hammering and banging form the vicinity of Dempseys when I walk past so I take it that this new bar next door to them is still in the pipeline albeit a bit late past its opening date ... ? PS I seen a queue recently at Dempseys at 3am on a Sunday morning and it was snaked all the way from the front door all around the block!! Whatever about early doors it is certainly ram packed in the small hours of the morning at weekends !!
