Plain Talker
Going back to Lawson street, and comparing the map that PT linked to and the 1920 directory - Court 1 must be the first on the left as you walked down from Exeter St. Lawson St (11 Exeter street.) 1 Staniforth Mrs. Martha 3 Elliott George Gerard, tramcar driver 5 Elliott Thomas, (j) file forger. (Court 1) 7 Moss Louis, (j) tailor 9 Elliott Mrs. Sophia 11 Windley Mrs. Lucy (Court 3) 13 Jefferson Joseph, grinder 15 Cook Samuel, carter 17 Moore George Arthur, (j) cutler" 19 Roe John Morton,(j) silversmth (Court 5) 25 Dobson Harry, beerhouse The number of addresses exactly matches the number of houses on the map, with three alleys leading to the three courts, and both sources show the public house at the bottom. Hugh Hi hugh. Guess what? I found another map of that street, which showed the numbering on the courts in Lawson street, and you are right, the top corner of Lawson Street, with its junction with Exeter St is where it was.. (on the opposite end of the terrace from the public house.)
