Tony
I know that times are tough at The Royal Mail but I've noticed that the amount of junk being delivered by the postie has gone through the roof. Today's wasn't an exception; here's what he brunged. 1 x letter addressed to me 1 x gas bill 1 x conference pamphlet addressed to me 1 x cruise brochure addressed to me - the third in as many days 1 x postcard tempting me to subscribe to a magazine 1 x mailshot from same cruise company 1 x Merry Maids cleaners flyer 1 x RB Allan & Sons guttering flyer No wonder he gets dropped off in a van. Magilla
You can opt out of any guff that doesn't specifically have your name on it. optout@royalmail.com Not that it works 100% of the time but it does seem to have reduced it to a managable level. Tony
I opted out with MPS / TPS / FPS years ago. They don't love me. The new thing seems to be using the postie to deliver leaflets ( rather than addressed mail) to every house. I'm not sure how that will be stopped by registering with any service. alchresearch
I had three items of Royal Junk Mail today. I'm all for keeping the posties in a job so I put it in the pillar box with my outgoing mail.
Lucifer
The Royal Mail are paid to deliver junk mail, I usually collect it on a weekly basis then post it into the post box. If they are paid to deliver it, they should charge the junk supplies extra to dispose of the returns. Send it all back to the Royal mail.
algy
Like alchresearch says, it keeps the postie in a job, as well as the lads who empty my blue bin.
carosio
I heard on a radio programme that if they stopped delivering this mail then postage costs would rise to cover the lost income.
Guest
You can opt out of any guff that doesn't specifically have your name on it. ... Not quite true. That only works for unaddressed mail. So, for example, the twice-weekly junk pile I receive from Virgin Media would get through as they're addressed to 'The Occupier, 10 Anywhere Street', as opposed to just 'The Occupier' with no address stated. Bloody Virgin Media. If I'd ever considered switching to them for my broadband their incessant junk mail campaign has got rid of that notion. Tony
I've noticed that I receive only junk mail on Tuesday's, with no real mail. This cannot be a coincidence but I'd like to know who sanctioned this policy of not delivering the Royal Mail in preference to junk mail one day a week. 2009 profits double http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8049808.stm 2010 profits rise 26% http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/may/20/royal-mail-profits-up 2011 profits fall http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-13765645 I only want the mail I require, not the mail that RM want me to have. Can I opt out of this state monopoly please?
