Why do some people see the world in black and white/simplistic terms?

Recommended Posts

Why are we talking about muslims??. If all muslims had a desire to make bombs I could understand it.

All peadophiles have a sexual desires towards children.

Yes, but the point being made by the OP ( which you seem to have inadvertently illustrated ) was that people have a tendency to see issues in black and white.

It isn't as simple as 'all Muslims are terrorists' or in this case 'all paedophiles are a threat to children'.

Because it's a parallel in logical fallacy. One of the main points in my OP is that some people view the world based on crude stereotypes. Two hypothetical examples I used were:

Some people who are sexually attracted to children become abusers, therefore pedophiles are evil.

Islamic fundamentalism is responsible for certian acts of terrorism, therefore Muslims are evil.

They are both the same kind of strawman statement. Both use a sense of "I have seen this type of person commit this crime, therefore this type of person is evil".

So what about paedophiles that veiw images or watch sexual acts involving children??

But as has been stated previously....how many men would deny watching a porno movie with model dressed as a prepubescent with freckles, gym slip and pig tails, and get turned on by that? It's role play but never the less the turn on is child fantasy..otherwise the model wouldn't be dressed in child school clothing. Are the millions of men who consume this on a daily basis paedophiles? Western culture on the one hand tells us it's not only "evil" to sexually abuse a child it also labels you a paedophile just to look at a child in a sexual context. Gets a bit confusing does it not when on the top shelf of any newsagent you can find "Sexy Tracy gets punished by headmaster".

Can what someone thinks ever be regarded as a crime?

No,,but if someone was to come out with what they are thinking i.e kids, then surely something should be done there? call me black and white, but if for example you were to tell me face to face that you liked kids,I would quite easily do time for my actions and feel zero remorse for them too.

So are you saying that, if for arguments sake "A Man", in his forties, was displaying signs of being sexually attracted towards a young child that you knew, you would'nt become concerned untill he tried it on.
