Thanks Elmambo - I can now picture the sign above the shop in red.

 

Spent many an hour in there and all the other city centre record shops and market stalls around that time. Bought many an ex-jukebox single with the centres punched out.

i can remember record shop in dixon lane in the 50s also violet may down the moor if you wanted to listen to a song you went into small boothes and i can remember buying my first radiogram from philip cans it was a black grundig i cred all the way home one side was a record player the other side was cocktail bar wish i had it now that was in the rock and roll years

I can remember my parents buying a Stereogram back in the Sixties. My first

pop record was TELSTAR by THE TORNADOES . You had to open a door to reveal the turntable.

I was a regular at Violet's as well.

 

I think only RECORD COLLECTOR at Broomhill is flying the independant record store flag in this CIty.
