Cut funding for the elderly, or the young? Which funding would you cut?

Recommended Posts

OK, after the election whoever gets elected is going to make savage cuts and sadly thats a fact of life.

OAPS (the ones who have saved and worked hard) appear to be getting shafted by the current government, and there appears to be a death tax on the cards. OAPs have to sell homes for nursing care.

The youth service/and others to work with the youth recieve funding to help young people with drug and alcohol issues. More and more we are seeing hard working young people being paid peanuts who are unable to afford their own home, and yet in the same breath another young person could get a free home despite never doing a days work in their lives.

So while cuts are on the cards, who/or which group of people in our society should bear the brunt of the cuts? As OAPS are more vunerable, I beleive we should cut funding for the youth (ie drugs and alcohol) and divert that funding to care for the elderly.

What do others think?

Hmmm....what if cutting funding to help young people deal with drugs and alcohol results in more attacks and muggings on old folk, bit of a false economy wouldn't you say?

Instead of spending the money dealing with alcohol and drugs. Why not just have a policeman with a can, thrashing the living daylights out of the thugs at a police station.

A cane costs about £2, the money spent on drug problems etc.... gets diverted to the elderly

The trouble with a high percentage of youth today, is that they expect everything and give nothing. Whereas the elderly have on the whole contributed to the country's economy for their whole working life. My choice would be give to the elderly and let the youth look after themselves, the females choose to get pregnant, so let them pay for it, and the males (and females) choose to take drugs, so let them look after themselves. We don't choose to be old, and infirm.

The older generation that allowed society to get into this mess should face the brunt of the cuts, but they will not, as they make up the largest proportion of the electorate.

The sad fact of the matter is, many are living too long after retirement to have made their working lives be of benefit to society. Their retirement age will not be raised, their money will not be affected.

They could possibly be entitled to such a life if the super rich had not exploited us all mind.

The older generation slating the younger generation needs to remember who brought the younger generation up. Why should anyone be punished? And also who says that old people have paid into the system. Not all old people have worked and paid into the system. Just like not all young people get pregnant for money, and not all young people use drugs, and also not all young mums on benefits spend their benefits on fags and alcohol etc. There are some sensible young uns out there. Thanks :).

And who has brought up these useless young people?

The money should be given to the elderly ,as they need the help, and have contributed and paid into the system al their working life.

the young are able to look after themselves.

and to be honest , why should money be used to fund things like drug projects when drug abuse is a self inflicted problem .:rant::rant:
