Nagel
Where is the democracy in all this? Do Sheffield people actually want the city centre demolishing and rebuilding so that it is more like Meadowhall?
LeMaquis
Proposals for Sheffield’s long-awaited retail quarter will finally be debated by planners this summer - months later than hoped. Documents submitted as part of outline proposals for the £480m destination of shops, homes and offices, which council bosses hope will transform the city centre’s fortunes, reveal applications will be ‘presented to committee in early June.’ Demolition of the Grosvenor Hotel House Hotel for the scheme was also expected to start in December but will now take place in the next three months, while an announcement on the chosen developer was due in March, but will be in ‘spring or early summer.' why after all these years there is still no sign of development ? As I said before, in denial.
smiggs
Where is the democracy in all this? Do Sheffield people actually want the city centre demolishing and rebuilding so that it is more like Meadowhall? The streets are still going to be open air, the only way they will be like Meadowhall is that there will be a modern offering in a city centre that has one had one retail development in the last two decades. Jonny5
As I said before, in denial. Nothing has been finalised. No plans, no developer. Grosvenor House is (maybe) coming down (months later than scheduled naturally), but other than that this is just the usual pre-election bluster. The SRQ is no closer to being started now than ever. Hambeast
Where is the democracy in all this? Do Sheffield people actually want the city centre demolishing and rebuilding so that it is more like Meadowhall? Do you actually want there to be a referendum for every single decision made by a council or government? This is why we hold "elections", to vote people in to make decisions on our behalf. Imagine how much things would cost if we had to hold a referendum for everything.

The Grosvenor is to be demolished and all the shops on the block involved (Cambridge Street, The Moor, Charter Square)have to be vacated by the end of June. Although no partner has been signed up yet the Demolition will go ahead.

I suppose even the inevitable hoardings would be better than having a derelict eyesore Hotel and loads of tatty fronted shops. Actually it might be a nice spot for an outdoor market

The pace of the Grosvenor demolition ahead of the rest of the scheme suggests they have someone who is interested.
