Perhaps Hammerson's have sent the council a response but the envelope the response wasn't sufficiently "padded" and has been sent back for additional padding to be added? You can't have too much padding in an envelope. Especially if it's brown in colour.

I'm amazed planner1 hasn't posted yet to tell us how wrong we all are, expecting the council to actually what they said they'd do.

Well, actually, I'm not amazed in the slightest.

So, can you point out where the Council said they would be making an announcement?

From the Star Article on 20th May:

The developer behind Sheffield’s planned multi-million pound shopping centre Sevenstone has been ordered to commit to a completion date by the end of May – or be axed.

Sheffield Council has told Hammerson that unless it makes a firm commitment to begin work on the long-delayed shopping scheme, another developer will be sought.

And the council is already looking at alternative proposals to bring the £600 million retail dream to reality, including splitting the site into numerous ‘parcels’ and inviting several firms to build the pieces.

The Star understands the sticking point preventing Hammerson committing is who bears the ‘risk’ of about £30m to be borrowed against future business rates.

There is the possibility there will not be enough money to cover repayments if insufficient retailers snap up space within the development.

John Mothersole, council chief executive, said: “The council is engaged in intensive discussions with Hammerson which will hopefully confirm the new retail quarter is being brought forward.

“We can’t rule out the possibility agreement cannot be reached in the near future.

“In which case we cannot wait, and will have to move on with an alternative approach.

“We do want to deal with Hammerson and hope the near future will see a conclusion.”

So, nothing there about a date for any announcement. Where has this expectation come from?

I assume and expect an announcement will be made at some point. How long after SCC have made a decision (which we must assume they have as the end of May has been and gone) would it be reasonable to be expected to wait for an announcement of that decision?

All is well in the world, SCC are on the case, there's nothing awry with Sevenstone, everything is on course, they'll be starting any day (or /week/month/year/decade/century) now and planner1 has indeed proven that we are wrong and SCC can indeed be trusted to run a drinking party in an alcohol production facility.

Yes.

Right.

Lies, damned lies and SCC-employed apologists. P A T H E T I C.

Good to see you think that the Star's coverage is unbiased and accurate this week.:)

I suppose the expectation came from John Mothersole going public with the 31 May deadline given to Hammersons.

By putting this ultimatum in the public domain it is not unreasonable for the public to expect updates, even if its only to say no decision/action has been taken.

So the deadline passed and ................NOTHING, what a surprise . We all knew the council are full of hot air . Hammerson have the council dangling on a string . This is beyond a farce .

If thats true and it is 2020 then Mothersole needs to resign.

Or be sacked if he wont go under his own steam.

resign:confused: he should be tarred and feathered and run out of town on a lame donkey. even if he announced tonight that hammersons were to start building tommorow it is too late . he should refuse his golden handshake and his gold plated pension and never darken sheffield again, but he wont will he ?

Even the most hardened council appologist cannot surely try to defend the councils failure to inform the public about this one?

The council have set a deadline of 31st of May and either the developer has met that deadline or according to the council they will be terminated and a new developer sought.

It is perfectly reasonable to expect the council to announce which of those is the case when their deadline expired.
