And I'm not a fan of people who arbitrarily dismiss studies by groups as respected as Pew Research simply because they don't like the findings.

why not dismiss it?

http://pewglobal.org/2005/07/14/islamic-extremism-common-concern-for-muslim-and-western-publics/

"The latest survey by the Pew Global Attitudes Project, conducted among more than 17,000 people in 17 countries this spring, finds that while many Muslims believe that radical Islam poses a threat, there are diffe...blah blah "

sorry 17,000 people (even 100,000 people)

does not give these statistics (and esp these summaries) any real value

"70% of Pakistanis see themselves as "Muslim First"

94% favoured Islam having a growing role in Politics

51% had "a lot or some" confidence in Bin Laden as a world leader

44% thought Suicide bombings and other acts violence of against civilian targets in defence of Islam was often/sometimes or rarely justified

OF THOSE SURVEYED

What was that about a "small minority"?

Its not anywhere near approaching a representative statistic.

To in some, or any way indicate that;

44% of 17,000

somehow relates in any real way to,

44% of 166,111,487

makes it very very dismiss-able regardless of their thoroughness or stature.

and yes they are respectable surveys (imo) but they mean nothing in the real world.

ot- I completly agree with your point. the 'crime' and its punishment should really not ever have exsisted
