Limit punks in pipes and slippers shock

At one time you’d rightly expect your average Sheffield punk rocker to be seen with a pint glass in hand and nothing else.

But over 30 years after the launch of the city’s first venue dedicated to the movement it’s the launch of a coffee table mug that HMV are reporting as one of the fastest selling items of 2010.

The £7.95 limited edition mug depicts the original logo of the iconic West Street venue and celebrates the renewed interest in The Limit by the success of Neil Anderson’s ‘Take It To The Limit’ that went on sale in October last year and became a local best seller.

Andy Hunt, assistant manager at HMV at Meadowhall, said: “Rock’n’roll mugs have actually become very popular merchandise for bands in recent years and we’ve stocked everything from Beatles to Kiss mugs in the past.”

There’s also a second Limit reunion club night planned for Saturday, May 1, at Wellington Street’s Casbah, with former Limit DJ Paul Unwin returning to the decks once more.

A reunion event organised in October was a complete sell-out, with one couple travelling from Spain to be at the event. Scores of musicians from some of the city’s most well known bands were in attendance, including members/ex members of Human League, Pulp, ABC, The Negatives, The Extras and many others.

Tickets for the May event are now on sale on line at http://www.takeittothelimit.info and in person from Plug box office, Bath Hotel, The Washington and The Casbah priced £10 each.

Credit card bookings can also be made on 0114 241 3040.
