Tony
Is middle age a state of mind or something more tangible? Are we all infected or do some of us escape?
HeadingNorth
I've always taken it to refer to nothing other than the roughly-halfway stage of life; my life expectancy is 85-90 years, so I'd be middle aged at forty to forty-five. Or maybe from 35 to 50, depending how broad a brush you want to use. I don't think there's anything you can identify specifically about that particular age group, any more than you can about any other age group. Some old people act young, and some young people act old.

chinaski
I knew I was middle aged when cartoons didn't make sense anymore. Luckily the BBC caters for this, hence Saturday Kitchen. (I just hope I'll never do that weird middle-aged Saturday morning thing, and go for a bike ride or a walk in the Peaks). Tony?

I knew I was middle aged when I bought a red sports car and started dating a 30 year old And you'll know the downside of being a middle-aged woman when your 30 year old disappears with that 10k you loaned him. 30_degrees
When you're heading out the door feet first, divide your age by 2. That's middle age :hihi:
