So, what was the reason for shooting up the van? Maybe those bad people were planning to drive the van into the Apache, A-Team style?! :loopy:

Strange I always thought the purpose of war was to shoot your enemies ,now unless the van was displaying a red cross surely when it approaches what is perceived as hostiles it will become a legitimate target :loopy:

P.S its very easy to hide weapons in a van

When it approaches hostiles :suspect: You mean the dead and wounded. Hardly going to threaten a helicopter when they are dead or on the verge of death, are they?

How can it be a legitimate target when the only thing the occupants were guilty of was helping the wounded :loopy:

again thats easy to say in retrospect after all the evidence has been collected and examined ,the pilot didnt have that luxury,he may have considered the van a threat.

And for the poster who mentioned the children.only a fool would take their children into a situation where live rounds are being fired.

Yeah, it was an on the spot decision :loopy: He had a huge window of opportunity to assess the situation, he radioed for permission to attack, so it wasn't as if he was put on the spot.

As for the children. You know nothing of the circumstance of why that van was there, and neither did the helicopter crew. The van could have simply been driving by and saw the injured in the street and therefore stopped to help. Who knows, but the actions of those in van were clear from the video, they were there to help the wounded.

The trouble with that statement is that if they are in the back of the van they are invisible to a pilot in a helicopter, indeed to anybody bar Superman and his Xray vision, its not rocket science is it.....now who are the fools ?

I feel your statement was the most foolish. Imagine the scenario. You are driving down the street with your family and you come across bodies in the road, you park up and run to assist the wounded when all of a sudden you are shot at, by a helicopter that is at such a distance, you have no idea it's there. Why would it be stupid to drive your children around the city they live?

While I understand collateral damage and mistakes can and will be made, what I object to the most is the dialogue used by the pilots: "light em up" and "look at those dead <swear word used to describe illegitimacy>".

Its one thing to do your job, but savage and bloodthirsty when you get some kind of jubilation and pleasure from it.
