DragonofAna
Sounds like drive shaft to me. Not expensive and not difficult to fit. Mine was doing the same and that was the cause - but mine was not a Renault. Parts available cheap from Europarts I bet.
roughy101
thanks i did think it was this is it an expensive job to do..it also sounds dangerous?yes it can be dangerous, our car is a jag and last year we had a puncture in the back wheele,we had a 3" screw embedded on the inside wall of the tyre,in october it went thro the mot and it passed with no probs, shortly after the test we expierenced a taptap tapping and thought it was a stone or something inside the wheel,in january we drove on our drive and found another 3" screw exactly the same as the one in the tyre, the tapping got worse and the brakes needed doing and thats when we found the propshaft was almost hangig off,2 screws were missing 1 was hanging out which was tapping and the other was working lose, the garage told us that if it had snapped at speed the car would have turned over. it cost just under £600 to have it done £70 for the part and the rest was labour,it did have to go to a jaguar specialist so was more expensive. i think you shouldnt drive it until you have had it checked out good luck:) we did find out that the car was 4 wheele drive and that was why it was so expensive. convert
Sounds like the CV (constany velocity) joint on the driveshaft, more than likely an outer one. Best course of action is to replace the CV joint with a new one, or if budget is tight you could probably pick up an entire driveshaft with both inner and outer joints from a breakers.
