Other than that it has been the inspiration for some cracking movies, games and songs. There's also the technology that comes with it too as someone else said before. The male member of any species of life on earth has aggressive tendencies which can lie dormant or surface at anytime when provoked by a particular situation. We cant stop wars even if we know that they are against all civilized standards of behaviour. They're like safety valves. One side starts to push, diplonacy is tried and fails, the side starts to push harder and harder until the other side finds it completely intolerable and then things blow up.
